the Aspirants: Research …..Research….Research…. do it
the Parents: lets your kids do all the work
Doing master in abroad is a dream for most of the students in India, This article how and what are the steps involved in landing a university in the UK.
1.Finding the right course of your interest
first and foremost important one is finding the right course so it’s your personal interest so just sit back and relax and think to find your interest first ie. computer science, management , mechanical, etc
in my case: I’m interested in Computer Science
2. Finding the right university based on your interest
The UK is one of the top destinations for international students and there are very good colleges in the UK. Use a website like study UK to find a list of universities in the UK and go through each and every module and think does all the modules listed are challenging or if your experience does 30% of the modules have you previously worked on, then go for it.
in my case: it’s the university of Leicester because my previous experience match more with the modules and fees is affordable
3. Applying to the university
Go to the university website and apply with the required documents or there are few consultancies in India to help us to apply for universities.
some of the documents I used while applying are
- Resume
- LOR 1 — From your university
- LOR 2 — From your last organization or if fresher you can get the same from the university
- SOP — write a statement of purpose right from your childhood to your current stage and connect it with the course that you gonna apply for to university
- IELTS — Get at least no band less than 6.5 on reading, listening, writing, and speaking
- 10th,12th, and Bachler degree mark sheet.
in my case: Having experience in a software firm after my bachelor's degree I was able to get LOR 2 from my organization.
4. Next Approaching bank for a loan
***can skip if your self funded student*****
In India, there are several banks that offer education loans to the students either with collectral or non- collectral
if your going for collectral the interest will be less
approach all banks and find which bank provides the lowest interest and proceed with the steps as loan officer guides
in my case: I went with Indian Bank, since Leicester is a prime institution I got my education loan at the interest rate of 7.75%.
5. Applying for Visa
Loan processing will take min of 1 week to 2 months maximum, so before your get, your loan sanction letter makes all the documents ready for visa.
Documents required to apply for visa
- University un-conditional offer letter
- Loan sanction letter or if your self-funded student make sure you had that money in your account for at least 30 days
- Financial report
- visa cover letter
- ticket ( if booked )
visa process could take 2 days to 40 days. so based on your time available go with the standard or priority or super-priority option while applying for visa
get a UK sim card in
in my case: I went with priority and I got my visa in 4 working days.
6. Ticket booking
Check all the airlines who provide the best service, all airlines provide some offers for students make sure you utilize that while booking ticket and most of the booking sites offer an instant discount while booking air tickets
in my case: I booked in air India
Benefits I got is: can carry one extra bag (23kg) from air India and 4k discount on ticket booking from cleartrip
7. pack everything and get ready to fly
while packing makes sure to have all the electronic items in your back bag and not in your luggage.
most airlines allow having a separate bag for electronic items apart from the luggage details mentioned in the ticket utilize it to carry some extra things.
8. After landing
Make sure you make research on train and bus availability or if you find few of the university mates traveling on the same date book a cab and you share the fare.
9. Attending university
Attend university to get your BRP card and student ID card.
